Today's Tip 2: How Fast Do You Need Cash? is kind of ironic--the truth is, a book, done extraordinarily well, doesn't necessarily yield a profit short-term. Very often the contents of the book, repurposed in another form, are what allows an author to reach profitability. But while you must take your time to optimize and maximize your book, you can turn the contents into other income streams fast (some as soon as next week!).

But should you?

As you analyze the different options you have to turn your book's contents (sometimes combined with other quivers in your belt), be sure to keep in mind how quickly you need to obtain cash flow. Expected Time to Revenue is provided for each of the income streams I've personally produced in You Must Monetize Your Book.

For example:

• Building a professional speaking business can take years, but you could book a paid keynote in a matter of days or weeks.
• Producing a course that sells for years can take months, but you can (and should) pre-sell the beta version of your course as proof of concept as well as to generate some fast cash.

While how quickly you can generate revenue is far from the only consideration (we'll progress through them in the posts that follow), it is one of the important ones. If you need revenue sooner, be sure to choose the income streams that provide a faster the path to revenue. However, if you can afford to play a longer game, you exponentially increase the likelihood of a larger and more leveraged income.
